Writing code is no longer a significant part of most software engineering jobs, yet that still dominates most job descriptions. Are glorified code reviewers or agent orchestrators just as valuable? The way organizations assess software engineers – from hiring and training, to justifying promotions and pay rises – needs to be revisited.

With the right application of AI, junior developers have the potential to accomplish senior engineer levels of impact, and every engineering job should become more connected to business outcomes.

The definition of ‘high-performing’ and ‘promotion-ready’ is rapidly changing in our industry.
